The ladybird is worked flat, and that is exactly what makes it a rattle for touching. The hemispheres on its back rise round and smooth from the flat surface; between the spots the surface is smooth, with nothing in the way. With the fingertips, each spot can be found and circled one by one.

The head and antennae are also formed in relief and feel different from the round spots. On a small, flat surface there are several places to discover: the raised spots, the smooth surface between them and the head with its antennae. On the round spots, tarnishing appears first in the small depressions between them — normal for sterling silver. A soft polishing cloth is enough for the hemispheres; gentle rubbing is sufficient for the fine gaps. In children's hands, the beetle should only be used under supervision.
