SilberKlar — Pendants on a Chain in 925 Silver

A SilberKlar is a figurative pendant in 925 sterling silver on a silver chain, a form traditionally known in Russian silverwork as a “water refresher”. The pendant is hung over the rim of a carafe, leaving the motif visible — a small piece of silverwork for the laid table. Our collection comprises 13 motifs, from the pike to the dragon to the rose, each individually cast in the workshop and finished by hand.

What defines a SilberKlar pendant

Every piece is made of solid 925 sterling silver — the same alloy of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% copper used for table silver. The motifs are cast, deburred and polished; fine details such as the scales of the pike or the petals of the rose are worked by hand afterwards. The chain is made of the same material and carries the same hallmark.

The size is deliberately restrained: depending on the model, the motif measures around one and a half to two centimetres, the weight lies between ten and nineteen grams. A SilberKlar therefore hangs quietly on the carafe without weighing it down — and works just as well on a vase, a bottle, or as a pendant on a keyring.

The motifs

The thirteen motifs fall into four groups — and that is usually what decides who a piece is meant for.

• Animals and mythical creatures — pike, cat & butterfly, dragon & treasure chest. The pike alludes to the Russian folk tale “At the Pike’s Command”, the dragon stands in many cultures for strength and protection.
• Pastimes and passions — football, boat, car, target. Motifs that pick up a hobby and become personal through it.
• Emblems — freedom, walk, bell. Restrained forms that suggest an attitude rather than spelling it out.
• Classic and feminine — rose, “For Ladies”, snowman. The snowman is the winter motif of the series and a popular gift in the run-up to Christmas.

Craftsmanship from the manufactory

The SilberKlar series is made by ArgentA, a silver manufactory specialising in figurative small sculpture. Casting is done in individual moulds, followed by handwork: deburring, filing, polishing. Because each piece is finished individually, two pendants of the same motif differ in nuances — in the depth of a groove, in the shine of a surface. That is not a flaw but the hallmark of handwork as opposed to series casting.

Care and storage

Rinse under running water after use and dry with a soft cloth. Like all silver, a SilberKlar darkens over time — a normal process, not a defect. A silver polishing cloth restores the shine in seconds; with fine motifs that have recesses, leave the hatching untouched so the contrast is preserved. Store dry and as airtight as possible, for example in the case supplied.
