Niello jewelry in 925 sterling silver features a decoration that goes beneath the surface—literally. A dark alloy of silver, copper, and sulfur is melted into engraved lines and permanently bonded to the silver. The result: ornaments with contrast and depth that will neither flake nor fade. Our collection includes nine pieces —rings, pendants, and bracelets—from the SevChern workshop.

What makes Niello special

Niello is one of the oldest silver-finishing techniques. The dark alloy is melted at high temperature into pre-engraved recesses—it fuses with the silver, forming an inseparable bond. Unlike applied coatings, niello does not wear off. On the contrary, over time the silver develops a fine patina that further enhances the contrast with the black niello. This process is rarely practiced in Europe anymore—our pieces come from one of the few remaining workshops that have mastered this technique in over 15 steps.
