Material and workmanship

The keychain is a compact piece of silver with sculptural niello ornamentation: floral ornaments and a star in fine-line engraving, plus a lobster clasp for attaching to a keychain — robust and suitable for everyday use. The necklace pendant features a classic triangular arrowhead on a braided chain, with a niello flame pattern on the front made of aggressive, dynamic lines that give the arrowhead movement. The reverse side is smoothly polished, and the chain is length-adjustable.

The black on both pieces is genuine niello inlay: a black sulfur-silver compound is fused into engraved silver, filed flush, and polished. The black sits flush within the silver, deep and lustrous like fresh ink on paper, and just as durable as the silver itself. The niello tradition from Veliky Ustyug has been documented in writing since 1683; the SevChern manufactory continues it to this day.
