Material and Workmanship

The body of the casket is crafted in the shape of a carriage, with four openwork wheels, each bearing a red cabochon stone at its center, a raised coachman's seat element at the front, and a crowning ornamental cap with a pearl wreath and central stone. The side surfaces feature a dense floral niello ornament: hand-engraved into the silver, then filled with the dark niello paste, which is melted in an open flame and remains permanently bonded to the silver — not a print, but ink in silver that gains contrast with every polish. Gilded contours on the wheel rim, decorative strips, and coachman's seat create warm accents against the black of the niello inlay and the cool white of the polished silver. Small golden drop pendants hang from the sides, adding an extra sculptural touch to the piece.
