Material and Craftsmanship
The upper part shows a sitting teddy bear as a fully three-dimensional figure — sitting upright, with slightly bent legs, round ears, and a bow around its neck. Inside are small balls that create a gentle, bright jingle when shaken. The handle below is smooth and polished, tapers downwards, and ends in a rounded tip. Manufactured by the Russian silver manufactory Russkije Samozvety in St. Petersburg. Unlike 925 sterling silver (92.5% silver, 7.5% copper), 999 fine silver contains no alloy: The luster appears cooler and clearer, the material is noticeably heavier for the same volume, and tarnishes slower because the oxidizing copper content is absent. However, the surface is softer and thus somewhat more susceptible to scratches.
Use and Development
From birth, the rattle initially serves as a visual object — the intense shine of the fine silver captures every light. From about two to three months, babies begin to purposefully grasp; the smooth handle is well suited for this. From about four to six months, the rattle is actively shaken, and the balls in the rattle head create a delicate jingle. The teddy bear is one of the most universal symbols of childhood: It stands for security, warmth, and the first loyal companion who is always there. After the active use phase, the rattle can be kept as a keepsake.
Occasions and Target Groups
This rattle is suitable for parents looking for a special, rare material for a birth. For godparents who want to give a keepsake with a personal engraving for a christening, name and date in fine silver become a permanent sign. The piece also fits well as a grandparent's gift or for a first birthday — the teddy bear is gender-neutral and suits girls and boys equally.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
The smooth handle offers space for a personal engraving of approximately 20 characters — name, date of birth, or a short dedication. We also recommend the SilberVerse card: a digitally designed card in photo format 15 × 10 cm (landscape), suitable for the occasion and with your personal message. It is currently free of charge and will be included with the gift.
Care
999 fine silver is softer than 925 sterling silver and deserves a little more attention when it comes to care. Use a soft silver polishing cloth, no abrasive cleaners, and no silver dip baths. The advantage: Fine silver tarnishes slower than sterling silver because the oxidizing copper content is absent. Store the rattle dry and protected from light in the provided gift box when not in use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 999 fine silver and 925 sterling silver?
925 sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and is the usual standard for silverware. 999 fine silver consists of 99.9% pure silver without alloy — with a more intense luster, higher weight for the same volume, and a softer surface.
Is the rattle engravable?
Yes. The smooth handle offers space for approx. 20 characters, such as a name, a date of birth, or a short dedication.
Does 999 fine silver require special care?
Fine silver is softer than sterling silver and should be carefully cleaned with a soft silver polishing cloth. However, it tarnishes slower because the oxidizing copper content is absent.
