Material and craftsmanship

The medallion stands on its point like a diamond, with beveled facets on the four corners – a shape that is unique in our collection. The front features the relief dove motif, and the edges of the diamond are faceted. You can feel the raised wings and floral vines on the polished surface with your fingers – a variation that gives a baby’s sense of touch something to explore. The piece is crafted by the Italian silver manufacturer Zaramella. The pearly white acrylic ring has a delicate mother-of-pearl shimmer.

Use and development

In the first weeks of life, the shine of the silver medallion is most effective: the light refracting in the relief captures the baby’s attention. From about two to three months on, babies begin to grasp purposefully – the round, seamless shape of the ring is easy to hold, even with still-uncoordinated motor skills. As the ring moves, the medallion swings against it, creating a soft, bright clinking sound. From about four to six months, the ring also takes on the role of a teether during the teething phase; pre-cooled in the refrigerator, it relieves pressure on irritated gums.
