The violet surface in the product image is not a color coating. It is Guilloché enamel: Beneath the crystal-clear enamel layer lies a finely engraved geometric pattern in the brass. This pattern refracts light — the surface appears to have different depths and vibrancy depending on the angle. Light violet, dark violet, shimmering. Guilloché: Why this technique is so elaborate

A rose engine — a mechanical precision tool from the watchmaking tradition — engraves a uniform pattern into the brass. Then several thin layers of transparent enamel are applied and separately fired at about 800 °C. Each layer must cool completely before the next one follows. The finished enamel layer is clear — it magnifies the pattern underneath and makes it shine.

This process cannot be rushed. It requires experience, precision, and time — which is why a Guilloché frame is more expensive than an ordinary photo frame. Russkiye Samotsvety has mastered this technique for decades.
