Material and workmanship

The Victory motif is engraved using the niello technique – a dark alloy is worked into finely engraved grooves and permanently bonds with the silver. The partial gilding adds additional accents and highlights individual elements of the motif: a star, a curved wreath of leaves and ears of corn, and a striped ribbon winding around it. Niello and gold together are a classic stylistic feature of Russian silversmithing – the contrast of dark niello, warm gold, and bright silver gives the compact hip flask its special appeal. The lid and edge finish are also gilded. The hip flask is made of solid 925 sterling silver and bears the hallmark as a sign of authenticity.

Never treat gilded silver with aggressive cleaning agents or a silver dip, as this will damage the gilding. A soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient for daily shine.
