Material and Workmanship

The jug features the classic botanical pattern of the Veliky Ustyug school: floral blossoms – roses and wildflowers – embedded in vines and leaves, circling the bulbous body. Deep black on satin silver, melted into engraved recesses and chemically bonded to the base silver. At the upper rim, a narrow zigzag frieze complements the main floral motif – a geometric contrast typical of niello work from Veliky Ustyug. Niello is created through several steps: engraving, melting, firing, grinding, and polishing, repeated multiple times. The result is insoluble – not a coating that fades over time, but part of the metal itself. The bulbous shape with the flared trumpet foot, the gracefully curved spout, and the slender D-handle make the jug stable and comfortable to hold.

Usage and Occasions

120 ml is sufficient for milk or cream for tea or coffee for two to three people. The jug is deliberately designed as a connecting piece: it matches the teapot with 450 ml as well as the coffee pot with 500 ml – the same matte silver tone, the same niello ornament, the same design language. This allows the collection to be assembled modularly: teapot, coffee pot, milk jug, and cup function equally well individually and as an ensemble. Care Instructions

Hand wash with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip. The niello band is permanently fused, normal cleaning will not harm it. The matted surface can be refreshed with a soft silver polishing cloth. Store in the gift box.
