Niello is a metal alloy that is fired into the engraved depressions at high temperature and chemically-physically bonded with the silver – not a lacquer, not a coating, but a permanent component of the metal. This version deliberately remains without gilding: on purely polished silver, the niello contrast appears sharper and clearer than on gilded surfaces. The two gracefully crafted handles are not just functional, but part of the overall design language, as is the wide, round base with its own niello frieze.
