Material and Workmanship

A regular diamond pattern structures the entire outer surface of the cup, framed at the top and bottom by parallel lines. The niello blackening fills the areas between the diamond lines – deep black, durable, chemically bonded with the silver, while the raised grid points and edges remain highly polished. This makes the pattern appear different with every incidence of light. The cup is manufactured by SevChern, a manufactory founded in 1933, which continues the niello technique with over 15 work steps per piece and was awarded the gold medal at the Paris World's Fair in 1937.

The Floralis collection predominantly features floral niello ornaments – blossoms, tendrils, leaves. This cup is the exception and precisely for that reason interesting: the diamond grid is geometric, while material, technique, and origin remain the same. The niello diamond pattern is permanently melted in, normal cleaning does not harm it – the polished areas can be refreshed with a soft silver polishing cloth, while the black niello areas are protected. Store in the gift box.
