Material and Workmanship
The central motif is a silver plate made of 925 sterling silver, into which the horse head in profile has been hand-engraved: fine lines trace the mane, nostrils and fur structure, underpinned by an acanthus volute base as an ornamental finish. The silver plate is mounted on a deep red velvet passe-partout and enclosed by a frame. With an external dimension of approx. 120 x 120 mm and a silver plate weight of approx. 10.5 grams, the wall hanging is a compact gallery piece for walls, shelves or desks. The wall hanging is hallmarked.
Use and Occasions
The horse (马, mǎ) is the seventh of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs and, in popular belief, stands for freedom, enterprise, passion and charisma. The Year of the Fire Horse only returns every 60 years — the last was 1966, the next begins on February 17, 2026. This wall hanging is suitable as a gift for Chinese New Year, for the birth of a child in the Fire Horse year or for the round birthday of a person born in the year of the Horse (birth years 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014). Regardless of its astrological significance, it is also suitable as a worthy horse portrait for riders, horse lovers and as a statement piece for the study.
Care
- Clean the silver plate with a soft polishing cloth — no abrasive cleaners, no direct water
- Keep the frame and passe-partout dry, do not hang in a damp environment
- Remove dust from the frame with a soft brush instead of wiping
Frequently Asked Questions
What is special about the Year of the Fire Horse 2026?
In the Chinese 60-year cycle, each animal-element combination only occurs every 60 years. The last Fire Horse year was 1966, the next begins on February 17, 2026 and ends on February 5, 2027.
Is the motif engraved or printed?
Engraved. The silver plate features a hand engraving that traces the mane, nostrils and fur structure of the horse's head.
Is the wall hanging suitable as a gift even without a connection to Chinese New Year?
Yes. The motif works as a standalone horse portrait in silver — for riders, horse lovers or as a statement piece, completely independent of the astrological context.
