Material and Craftsmanship

The 925 sterling silver relief depicts a bull's head frontally, with curved horns and a calm, direct gaze, underpinned by Baroque acanthus volutes. The contours of the head, the shading of the nostrils and eyes, as well as the fine lines of the ornamentation, are executed in hand-engraved niello: a dark alloy is melted into hand-engraved lines, chemically and physically bonding with the silver. This creates a distinct depth effect — the bull emerges plastically from the silver surface. The relief is mounted on a deep red velvet mat board and encased in a dark brown wooden frame with a narrow gold decorative trim inside.

The piece is part of the ZODIAC line of the Nielloa collection, curated by us at SilberKosmos — astrological silver artworks in uniform framing, crafted by the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, a Russian center of silversmithing since 1683.

Usage and Occasions

Taurus is the second zodiac sign of the Western zodiac and represents all those born from April 20 to May 20. Ruled by Venus and associated with the element of Earth, it is considered a symbol of reliability, loyalty, appreciation for life's pleasures, a connection to nature, and endurance — once a decision is made, it stands.

As a gift, this wall piece is as fitting for the milestone birthday of a Taurus as it is for the birth or baptism of a child with this zodiac sign — the beginning of a personal zodiac gallery that grows with the child. It is also a harmonious symbol of the steadfastness that sustains a relationship over decades for the silver anniversary of a Taurus couple. If desired, one can start with one zodiac sign and, over the years, add further motifs of family members to create a personal gallery wall — all 24 motifs of the ZODIAC line share the same framing.

Eng raving and SilberVerse Card

After inspection, we can engrave a date, name, or short dedication on the back or on the frame — the recipient's birth date and name are popular choices. On request, we will also include a 15 × 10 cm SilberVerse card with your order: an individually designed, unique digital photo piece with your chosen text — free of charge.

Care

Treat the silver surface occasionally with a soft polishing cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners and direct contact with water. Over time, the niello lines will actually gain contrast as the surrounding silver is polished to a brighter finish. The wooden frame does not require any special care but should not be permanently exposed to a humid environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which birth period does the Taurus zodiac sign represent?

Taurus includes all births from April 20 to May 20. Its ruler is Venus, its element is Earth, and the sign's fundamental traits are steadfastness, loyalty, and appreciation for life's pleasures.

Can I build a complete family gallery with multiple zodiac signs?

Yes, all 24 motifs of the ZODIAC line — 12 Western zodiac signs and 12 Chinese zodiac animals — share the same framing and format and can be added to over the years to create a gallery wall.

Is the niello engraving a coating that can wear off?

No. Niello is not a coating, but a dark alloy that is melted into the engraved lines and bonds firmly with the silver. It does not wear off; rather, it gains contrast with every polishing.
