Material and workmanship

The green surface of the frame is not lacquer, but guilloche enamel: underneath the transparent enamel layer is a precisely engraved, repeating pattern that is worked into the brass with a rose engine. This pattern refracts the light, so the surface changes between deep green and bright shimmer depending on the viewing angle. The transparent enamel is applied in several thin layers, each layer individually fired at around 800 degrees Celsius and completely cooled before the next one follows.
