Material and craftsmanship
The green surface of the frame is not lacquer, but guilloché enamel: beneath the transparent enamel layer lies a precisely engraved, repeating pattern, which is worked into the brass using a rose engine. This pattern refracts the light, causing the surface to shift between deep green and a light shimmer depending on the viewing angle. The transparent enamel is applied in several thin layers, with each layer individually fired at around 800 degrees Celsius and allowed to cool completely before the next one is applied. The 925 silver angel figure sits in relief on the frame; the frame itself is made of rhodium-plated brass, which ensures that all metal parts appear in a harmonious silver tone and are permanently protected from tarnishing. Russkiye Samotsvety is synonymous with the Russian enamel tradition, which has cultivated this technique for decades; we have curated this piece for our collection.
Use and occasions
With dimensions of approx. 8.5×11 cm, this picture frame is compact but stands on its own and fits perfectly on a bedside table, shelf, or in a nursery without being overpowering. It fits in a handbag or travel bag, making it a companion even when you are on the go. In many cultures, the angel motif represents protection—a timeless companion from birth. This frame is therefore just as suitable as a gift for a christening or birth and remains a lasting keepsake well beyond childhood.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
After review, we will engrave the frame with a name, a date, or a christening verse—please specify your desired text when ordering. Upon request, we will include a personal SilberVerse card in 15×10 cm landscape photo format, individually designed and free of charge.
Care
The rhodium plating of the frame ensures a lasting silver shine and prevents tarnishing, similar to high-quality jewelry. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for cleaning.
Frequently asked questions
Is the angel made of real silver?
Yes, the angel figure is made of 925 sterling silver. The frame itself is made of rhodium-plated brass, which is why all metal parts appear in the same silver tone.
Why does the color of the frame change depending on the viewing angle?
The engraved guilloché pattern beneath the transparent green enamel refracts light differently depending on the angle from which you view it. This makes the surface appear lively and three-dimensional.
Is the frame suitable as a christening gift?
Yes. The angel as a symbol of protection and the high-quality craftsmanship make this frame a classic gift for christenings and births.
