Description
A small night sky stretches across the handle of this spoon: a gilded crescent moon, a shooting star with a long tail beneath it, and stars and hearts in between—some in gold, some left in plain silver. At the top, an angel figurine with a gilded halo is seated. The set includes an Orthodox cross attached to the eyelet, both encased in a hinged box.
For the day of baptism
Baptism gifts made of 925 silver
From a single spoon to a multi-piece set – silver that endures the day and is later retrieved from the shelf when stories are told.
Shop baptism giftsThe Baptism Set with Angel: What's Included
Two pieces with different daily lifespans. The spoon measures 113 millimeters, making it intentionally short for a child's hand, and stays in the house. The cross measures two centimeters and waits until the child is old enough to wear it—therefore, a chain is not included.
The same set is also available in an antique blackened version, where the reliefs are dark rather than gilded. Further combinations can be found under Baptism Gift Sets.
A Night Sky on the Handle
The sequence of motifs is not a random pattern but tells a story: moon, shooting star, stars — the image of the night in which a child sleeps. The gilding is not applied flatly, but highlights individual motifs. The moon and shooting star glow golden, while other stars remain silver. This alternation gives the slender handle depth without making it appear overloaded.
The angel at the top of the handle is fully sculpted—with shaped wings, curly hair, and folded hands—and is the only element on the head with a gilded halo. Those who like the imagery can also find it on the 925 silver baby spoons.
Why the motifs are raised
All motifs are raised from the handle and can be traced with a finger. This is intentional: The tactile line of this manufactory was developed for early childhood development, because children first grasp forms through their hands. A child holding the spoon can feel the moon and stars without anyone having to point them out.
Side effect for adults: The handle slips less because the motifs provide grip for the hand. Further pieces with tactile reliefs can be found in the tactile collection.
The bowl is also deliberately designed—smooth and without decoration. With a child's spoon, this is not a matter of economy but function: a smooth bowl can be rinsed without residue, and nothing can get stuck in an embellishment. The design remains where it belongs—on the handle, within reach of the fingers.
Consecrated in Kolchugino
The pieces in this series are consecrated before delivery — by the local Orthodox community of the Svyato-Pokrovsky Church in Kolchugino, Vladimir Oblast, Alexandrov Eparchy of the Moscow Patriarchate. A small certificate of this is included with the case.
For Orthodox families, this is often the difference between a pretty spoon and a baptismal gift. More pieces with this background can be found under Orthodox Gifts made of 925 Silver.
The Orthodox Cross
The pendant is small yet fully elaborated: the ends of the beams terminate in a clover shape, with the corpus in relief at the center. The three-leaved ends symbolize the Trinity in Christian iconography, and this shape is widespread for Orthodox baptismal crosses. The surface remains polished—without enamel or gilding, so that the cross does not compete with the gold-set spoon. Related pieces can be found under Christian Gifts made of 925 Silver.
Care: to keep gold and silver bright
After use, warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth for drying are sufficient. No dishwasher, no abrasive cleaners, no silver dipping baths – the gilded parts do not tolerate aggressive agents. If the silver tarnishes over time, a silver polishing cloth helps; only gently wipe over the gilded areas. Detailed information can be found in our silver care instructions.
Frequently asked questions about the baptism set
From what age is the spoon suitable?
As cutlery from the complementary feeding age. It is usually given much earlier – for baptism, often already at birth.
Is the set for a girl or a boy?
For both. Gold and silver without colored enamel are gender-neutral – practical if you are giving a gift before birth.
Does the gilding wear off?
The gilded motifs are raised and are hardly touched during eating. It is important to avoid abrasive cleaners and dipping baths and to wipe only lightly over these areas when polishing.
How can the set be personalized?
Via a SilverVerse card: a printed card with a verse or dedication that accompanies the gift. Examples can be found in the SilverVerse Card Gallery.
Is silver safe for a baby?
925 Sterling silver has been common for cutlery for centuries and is nickel-free. Like all children's cutlery, the spoon should be used under supervision; the pendant, due to its size, is not for infants.
Does it include a chain?
No. The set includes a spoon and a pendant; the parents will choose a chain later to suit the child's age.
