What the neck ring does

A bottle that only stands on its base can tip over — when bumped against the table or grabbed incorrectly. The ring at neck height removes this possibility. It holds without clamping: The bottle can be inserted from above and pulled out just as easily, without having to loosen anything.

The second benefit becomes apparent when pouring. When you put the bottle back, you find the ring even without looking — it guides the neck into the correct position. With a heavy bottle and a full table, that is worth more than it sounds.

Why no ornament

With a piece without decoration, the execution is everything. The arm must have a consistent thickness over its entire length, otherwise, it is immediately visible; the curve must not have any kinks; the transition to the base must disappear.
