Wine is meant to be left open, liqueur is not. That is the whole difference between a carafe and this bottle — and it explains every one of its features: the lid, the narrow neck, the upright height. It is built to be sealed, and what is sealed can also be left standing out.

Why it is so tall

36 centimeters is a lot for a vessel of this capacity. The reason is the baluster shape: The contents sit at the bottom; the height comes from the neck. This has a practical purpose — when pouring, the long neck determines the direction of the stream, and liqueur can be poured into a small glass without missing.

The second reason is the presence. On a side table next to the glasses, it stands upright like a pillar, whereas a wide carafe would have to lie flat.

The stopper

A lid that is meant to be airtight requires two parts that fit together precisely — the neck and the stopper are crafted together and ground to fit each other. Therefore, they are not interchangeable: the stopper of a second bottle of the same model would not fit just as well.

The chased knob on top is more than just decoration. It provides a grip for the hand that a smooth ball would not have — especially when fingers are damp from a glass.

Material

The base of the neck is the thinnest point of the entire piece, and that is where an ornamental band is chased. Exactly this combination — thin material and embossed ornament — rules out silver plating: it would tear at the hallmark, where the metal is least load-bearing. Solid silver holds up, and the neck remains slim nonetheless.

What it is suitable for

For liqueurs, herbal distillates, port wine, and anything drunk in small glasses after a meal. It is not intended for wine — it lacks the wide opening that allows a red wine to breathe.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth; then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. The inside must be completely dry before sealing — residual moisture in a closed silver vessel causes it to tarnish from the inside, and a polishing cloth cannot reach there. How much does it hold?

The manufacturer does not specify a volume. With this design, the contents sit in the bulbous lower part; it is sufficient for a standard liqueur bottle. We can check with the manufacturer upon request.

Is the stopper airtight?

It is ground to fit and holds the contents. It is not intended for transporting a filled bottle — it is a stopper, not a seal.

Can you fill it with wine?

Possible, but not practical. The narrow neck barely lets any air reach the wine; decanting requires an open carafe.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver. We do not carry silver-plated goods.
