Material and workmanship

The coupe shape, also known as a champagne saucer, is the older of the two classic champagne glass forms—predating the slender flute. The wide, shallow bowl allows the beverage to breathe and provides space for aromas to develop. In this silver goblet, the shape features a sturdy stem and a broad foot that gives the piece stability; the bowl itself is wider than it is tall, a ratio of proportions that radiates calm. A band of stylized sunflower heads, framed by leaves and tendrils, encircles the bowl—each line engraved by hand into the silver, the black niello inlay then melted by hand in the flame, sanded smooth, and polished—like ink in silver. Because this piece is executed without gilding, the interplay between polished silver and black niello is displayed unfiltered: no warm gold tone to interfere, just silver and black in a clear, graphic juxtaposition.

Use and occasions

With approx. 180 ml, this coupe shape is suitable for a classic champagne, for a red wine that needs room to breathe, or for a cocktail such as a Sidecar or Daiquiri—the wide opening allows the aromas to rise directly to the nose. The coupe shape is fitting for New Year's Eve and the turn of the year as the original champagne glass. Even for a cocktail evening, whether an Espresso Martini or a classic champagne cocktail, a silver goblet with niello ornament brings bar culture to a new level. For collectors who prefer silver without gilding, this goblet is the most consistent version within the drinkware line.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Engraving is possible upon review—there is generally space for initials or a date on the foot or the polished surface below the ornamental band. For personalization, we can include a 15 × 10 cm landscape format SilberVerse card upon request—a digitally customized card tailored to the occasion, recipient, and message, each a unique piece and free of charge.

Care

Clean by hand with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid dishwashers as well as aggressive cleaners and abrasive agents, as they can damage the polished silver surface and the niello engraving. A high-quality silver polishing cloth maintains the shine. Since there is no gilding to protect against contact, it is recommended to clean the item promptly after use to prevent residue from settling on the polished surface.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this goblet not gilded?
This is a deliberate design decision—silver with niello shows the contrast in its clearest form, without the warmer gold tone found in the gilded models in our collection. Both versions are made of 925 silver.

What drinks is the coupe shape suitable for?
Classically for champagne, as well as for red wine and cocktails like a Sidecar or Daiquiri. At approx. 180 ml, a generous serving is possible.

Is an engraving possible?
Possible upon review—on the foot or on the polished surface below the sunflower band.
