Description
Teething ring & baby rattle, 925 sterling silver — Elegant lion design with pearly white acrylic ring
A pearly white acrylic ring with a delicate mother-of-pearl shimmer, adorned with a three-dimensional seated lion crafted from solid 925 sterling silver—child-friendly, mirror-polished, and full of character. The semi-transparent ring serves as both a grasping ring and teething aid: baby hands instinctively grasp it, and during teething, the smooth, BPA-free material provides a cooling surface. A small seated lion, also in 925 sterling silver , hangs from a metal loop at the bottom of the ring—with large, round eyes, a friendly smiling mouth, and a mane arranged like a halo around its head. When the baby moves the ring, the silver pendant gently swings against the acrylic, producing a soft, bright clink. Not a classic rattle, but a delicate acoustic signal that sparks curiosity without being overwhelming. Made by Zaramella Argenti —an Italian silversmith from Padua, renowned for uncompromising quality since 1948.

Zaramella Argenti — Italian silver art since 1948
This lion pendant comes from the Zaramella Argenti manufactory in Padua, northern Italy. Since 1948, the Zaramella family has been producing solid sterling silver in a tradition rooted in Venetian silversmithing. You can recognize its quality by three features: a flawless, mirror-like polish across the entire surface, invisible solder joints, and the hallmark "30PD Z 925" —the official Zaramella hallmark guaranteeing 92.5% pure silver. Zaramella also produces pieces for the French luxury house Christofle, among others—a testament to the high quality standards of this manufactory.
Each silver pendant at Zaramella undergoes a multi-stage production process: from casting and deburring to grinding and final high-gloss polishing. The lion's surface reflects light evenly and without visible imperfections—a testament to the meticulous care with which each piece is finished in Padua. This mirror-like quality is not merely aesthetic: a perfectly polished silver surface has no rough spots where dirt or bacteria could accumulate.
The lion pendant — childlike and friendly, with its mane forming a halo of rays
The silver pendant depicts a seated lion as a fully sculpted, three-dimensional figure—not a flat relief, but a small sculpture with volume and depth. The lion sits upright, its two front paws visibly extended forward, its body compact and rounded. What makes this figure special is its deliberately childlike style : large, round eyes dominate the face, giving the lion an alert, inquisitive expression. The mouth smiles kindly—not a fearsome king of the beasts, but a friendly cub lion radiating trust.
The most striking design element is the mane . It encircles the head like a halo—individual spikes spreading around the face, reminiscent of sunbeams. This design is no accident: it connects the lion motif with the symbol of the sun—warmth, light, and vitality. For a baby holding this pendant, the mane also serves as a tactile element: their fingers explore the individual rays and the contours of the figure.
The design is intentionally child-friendly: clear shapes, exaggerated proportions in the eyes and mane, and a silhouette that is immediately recognizable even to a newborn. Babies in their first weeks of life are particularly responsive to high-contrast shapes and distinct facial features—the lion's large eyes and friendly smile provide precisely this visual stimulation. The entire surface is polished to a mirror finish: the lion captures the light and reflects it with every movement, further attracting the baby's attention.
Note: Zaramella also offers the lion as a stem-shaped rattle (item 11534). In this version, the lion's rattle head sits atop a smooth silver stem that can be engraved. The acrylic ring version shown here is the modern option—without engraving, but with a teething ring function. If a personal engraving with a name and date is important to you, the stem-shaped lion rattle is the right choice.
The acrylic ring — a grasping ring and teething ring in one
The pearly white acrylic ring is the centerpiece of this product. Its round shape makes it a perfect fit for small baby hands—large enough to be gripped securely, yet light enough for even the youngest babies to hold. The smooth, rounded surface has no edges, no grooves, no places where anything could get caught. The semi-transparent shimmer of the pearly white material gives the ring a subtle elegance that complements the polished silver of the lion pendant.
BPA-free and food-safe: The acrylic ring is made from a material approved for direct contact with infants' mouths. Babies will instinctively put the ring in their mouths—this is intentional and harmless. During teething, when gums are irritated and sensitive, the smooth acrylic provides a comfortable surface for chewing and biting.
Cooling relief for teething: Place the ring in the refrigerator (not the freezer) for a few minutes before use. The cool material relieves pressure on the gums and soothes the baby. Especially during teething, the cool surface provides noticeable relief.
Antibacterial properties thanks to silver: The 925 sterling silver pendant hanging from the ring possesses natural antibacterial properties. Silver ions inhibit the growth of bacteria on the surface—a significant advantage for an object that is regularly placed in the mouth.
SilverVerse card as a gift accompaniment
Since this acrylic ring cannot be engraved, we offer an alternative for those who would like to add a personal touch to the gift: the SilverVerse card . A custom-designed card in photo format (10×15 cm) — featuring the child's name, date of birth, a personal greeting, or a blessing. Each SilverVerse card is unique, designed to suit the occasion and the recipient.
A SilverVerse card is especially fitting for the lion motif: A saying about courage and strength, combined with the child's name, transforms the baby rattle into a meaningful gift. "Be brave like a lion"—in conjunction with the birthdate and a personal greeting from the giver, this creates a card that will be cherished long after the moment is over. Simply indicate your preference when ordering or contact us via WhatsApp, chat, or email. The SilverVerse card is currently free —it will be included with the gift in the Zaramella box, making a beautiful present truly personal.
For babies born under the sign of Leo (July 23 – August 22), the SilverVerse card takes on an additional dimension: Here, the child's zodiac sign, the lion motif of the rattle, and the personal text combine to form a harmonious overall concept.
The lion as a symbol — king of the animals
The lion is one of the oldest and most powerful symbols in human history. In almost every culture, it represents strength, courage, and leadership . As king of the animals, it embodies natural authority—not through aggression, but through presence and sovereignty. Giving a baby a lion is like giving them a companion with a clear message: Be brave, be strong, be a leader.
What makes this Zaramella lion so special is the way it interprets this strength. Its childlike, friendly style—the large eyes, the smile, the rounded body—shows that strength can also be gentle and kind. It doesn't take a roaring, fearsome lion to symbolize courage. True courage is shown in kindness, openness, and the confidence that the world is a good place. This is precisely the message conveyed by the little silver lion.
In many cultures, the lion is considered a protector . For millennia, lion figures have stood as guardians before temples, palaces, and city gates. In heraldry, the lion adorns countless coats of arms as a symbol of bravery and nobility. In Christian tradition, the lion represents resurrection and vigilance. This protective symbolism makes the lion a particularly fitting gift for a newborn: a silent protector watching over the child.
As a zodiac sign (July 23 – August 22), Leo represents joie de vivre, generosity, self-confidence, and a natural charisma. Those born under the sign of Leo are considered warm-hearted, loyal, and charismatic—qualities that parents desire in their child, regardless of the actual birth date. For babies actually born under the sign of Leo, this rattle is a doubly meaningful gift: the design corresponds to the zodiac sign and accompanies the child as a personal symbol through the first months of life.
The lion motif is equally suitable for boys and girls. It is timeless, has positive connotations across cultures, and is free from the clichés that accompany many classic baby motifs. A lion is not just a cute cuddly toy—it is a symbol with depth and history.
Use and development — from day one
From birth: In the first few weeks of life, the acrylic ring serves primarily as a visual object. The mirror-like shine of the silver pendant catches the light and draws the baby's attention. The lion's large eyes and its radiating mane offer a high-contrast silhouette that fascinates newborns. Hold the rattle approximately 20–25 cm in front of your baby's face—this is the range in which newborns can focus most sharply.
From around 2-3 months: Babies begin to reach for objects. The acrylic ring is ideal for these first grasping attempts. Its round shape, without corners or edges, ensures that the ring can be held securely, even when motor skills are still uncoordinated. Every movement makes the lion pendant swing—the soft clinking sound provides an auditory reward for the grasping attempt and promotes cause-and-effect perception: "I move the ring, and it makes a sound."
From approximately 4–6 months: During teething, the ring becomes an active teething ring. Babies instinctively put the acrylic in their mouths and chew on it. The cool effect (after refrigeration) soothes the pressure on the gums. At the same time, babies at this stage begin to explore objects more consciously—their fingers feel the contours of the lion, the spikes of the mane, the curves of the body. Every touch trains their sense of touch and fine motor skills.
From approximately 8–12 months: The rattle becomes a familiar companion. Babies recognize the lion, reach for it intentionally, and develop a bond with "their" animal. The silver pendant becomes a visual anchor point—a familiar face in a world full of new impressions.
As a keepsake: Once the active use phase is over, the lion teething ring remains a memento of those first months of life. Solid sterling silver lasts for generations — the Zaramella gift box is ideal for storage. Perhaps one day your own child will hold this lion in their hand.
Care and storage
Acrylic ring: Clean the ring regularly with warm water and mild dish soap. Dry with a soft cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning agents or abrasives; do not put in the dishwasher. Replace the ring if visible scratches or discoloration appear.
Silver pendants: Clean the mirror-like shine with a soft silver polishing cloth as needed. A light patina that develops over time is normal for sterling silver and can be easily removed. Avoid contact with perfume, chlorinated water, or sulfur-containing rubber.
Before first use: Wash the entire teething ring thoroughly with warm water and mild dish soap. This will remove any manufacturing residue. The rattle is then ready for immediate use.
Storage: Store in the included Zaramella gift box, in a dry place away from light. Keep the silver and acrylic components separate when the ring is not in use for extended periods to prevent marks on the polished silver surface.
Frequently asked questions about the baby rattle lion with acrylic ring
Is the acrylic ring safe for biting?
Yes. The acrylic ring is BPA-free and food-safe — approved for direct mouth contact with infants. The smooth, edgeless surface is specially designed for babies. During teething, you can pre-chill the ring in the refrigerator — the cool surface soothes pressure on irritated gums.
Does the rattle make any noise?
The silver pendant produces a soft, bright clinking sound as it swings against the acrylic when the ring is moved. It's not a classic rattle like a stem-shaped rattle with silver beads inside, but a gentle acoustic signal—subtle enough for sensitive baby ears, yet noticeable enough to spark curiosity.
Can the rattle be engraved?
No. The lion pendant is three-dimensional and figurative—engraving is not possible. If you are looking for an engravable lion rattle, we recommend the lion rattle with a handle (item 11534)—it has a smooth surface on the handle that can be engraved. As a personal alternative to the acrylic ring, we offer the SilverVerse card —currently free.
How does this rattle differ from the lion-handle shape?
The stem-shaped rattle (item 11534) is a classic design: a lion as the rattle head on a smooth silver stem that can be engraved. The acrylic ring version shown here is the modern alternative: it functions as a teething ring, provides a cooling effect for teething, and is lighter. The stem-shaped rattle can be engraved, the acrylic ring cannot. Both are from Zaramella Argenti and feature the same childlike, friendly lion.
For what age is the teething ring suitable?
From birth. In the first few weeks, it serves as a visual and tactile grasping object. From around 4–6 months—when teething begins—it becomes an active teething ring. For babies born under the sign of Leo (July 23 – August 22), it is also an astrologically appropriate gift. As a keepsake made of 925 sterling silver, it will accompany the child long after its active use period.
