Niello — Ink in Silver, Permanently Fused

Niello is one of Europe's oldest silversmithing techniques — extremely rare today because it cannot be industrially reproduced. Imagine it like ink on paper, but permanently fused into the metal: A dark special compound is laid into the hand-engraved lines on the silver surface and melted in an open flame until it becomes part of the metal itself. No imprint, no coating — the black lines sit beneath the surface and become more contrasting with each polish. Personalization and Care

The backs of the spoon and fork handles are smoothly polished and easy to engrave — initials, name, or birth date on each piece. The owl plaque on the front with niello inlay remains untouched. Clean by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, dry with a soft cloth. Do not put in the dishwasher — heat and harsh tabs attack both silver and niello.
