Description
A child's cup that stays when the bottle is long forgotten: This 925 sterling silver cup features a cheerful fish motif in bright enamel on polished silver – a first drinking vessel that also becomes a keepsake. The fish is one of the oldest symbols of all: happiness, abundance, and the ability to find one's way in the flow of life. In Christian tradition, it also stands as Ichthys for faith itself – an image with a double meaning for a child who is just at the beginning of their own journey.
At a Glance
- Material: 925 Sterling Silver with colored enamel (fish motif)
- Manufacturer: Russkiye Samotsvety, St. Petersburg (founded 1912)
- Scope of delivery: 1 children's cup in gift box
Material and Workmanship
The fish motif is applied directly to the polished silver using an elaborate enamel technique: colored glass powder, fired at high temperatures and permanently fused with the precious metal. The colors are therefore lightfast and abrasion-resistant, not a painted or glued-on element. The rest of the cup remains pure, highly polished 925 sterling silver – deliberately understated, allowing the motif to speak for itself. Russkiye Samotsvety from St. Petersburg, a company with roots in 1912, is responsible for this piece.
Use and Occasions
The fish as an Ichthys symbol makes this cup an obvious christening gift with Christian relevance, while its role as a universal symbol of good fortune also makes it a pure birth gift – for abundance and a good start in life. Since the motif conveys neither a color code nor a gender role, the cup is equally suitable for girls and boys. Godparents give it for the christening ceremony, grandparents as the first silver piece for their grandchild, and it also remains a fitting gift for the first birthday.
Engraving and SilberVerse Card
Upon request, we can engrave a name, birth date, or a short personal dedication on the cup – turning the drinking vessel into a personalized keepsake. For engraving orders, we also include the SilberVerse card: an individually designed card in photo format 15 × 10 cm landscape, matching the occasion and motif, currently free of charge and always unique.
Care Instructions
Clean by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. The enamel motif should not come into contact with a silver dip cleaner. The cup is not dishwasher safe. If necessary, you can gently re-polish the smooth silver surfaces with a silver polishing cloth to maintain their shine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the children's cup suitable as a christening gift with religious significance?
Yes – the fish, as Ichthys, is one of the oldest Christian symbols and subtly connects faith with an object that will be part of your child's everyday life. You can find more ideas in our collection Gift Ideas in 925 Silver.
Is sterling silver safe for children?
925 sterling silver is food-safe and nickel-free – making it well-suited for daily use by a child.
Is the cup also suitable as a birth gift, without a christening context?
Yes. In addition to its Christian meaning, the fish also carries the older symbolism of happiness and abundance – a cup that works just as well as a birth gift without any religious context.
