Description

A pearlescent acrylic ring featuring a finely crafted scallop shell made of solid 925 sterling silver — naturalistic, elegant, and rich in symbolism. The ring serves as both a grasping toy and a teether, while the silver pendant gives the gift its special meaning. A piece that combines function and symbolism in one motif.

At a glance

  • Material: 925 Sterling Silver (pendant) + pearlescent acrylic ring
  • Motif/Shape: Scallop shell pendant with radial ribs
  • Acrylic ring: yes, as a grasping and teething ring

Material and craftsmanship

The pearlescent acrylic ring serves as both a grasping ring and a teether. Hanging from a metal eyelet at the bottom is the silver shell — featuring radial ribs, a wavy, serrated edge, and a mirror-like polish that catches the light with every movement. The ribs are tactile across the entire shell: little fingers can follow them from the tip to the edge, discovering the structure through their sense of touch. When the baby moves the ring, the silver pendant swings gently against the acrylic, creating a soft, bright clinking sound. Crafted by the Italian silver manufacturer Zaramella Argenti.

Use and development

In the first weeks of life, the ring serves primarily as a visual object — the mirror-polished finish of the pendant catches the light and draws the baby's attention. From about two to three months, the ring is actively grasped; from about four to six months, it serves as a teether during the teething phase. The scallop shell carries deep symbolism: it stands for protection and security, as its shell halves surround and preserve the vulnerable interior — like an origin that is being protected. In the Christian tradition, the shell is also closely associated with baptism, as baptismal water is often poured using a shell.

Occasions and target groups

This shell rattle is a particularly harmonious gift for birth and baptism, as it combines a liturgical baptismal symbol with a practical teether for everyday use. It is also a lovely, gender-neutral choice as a godchild gift or for a baby shower. Additionally, it is suitable for the first tooth, as the acrylic ring is actively used as a teether during this phase.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Engraving is not possible for this model — the shell pendant is three-dimensional and ribbed; the ribbed shape does not offer a smooth surface for engraving. As a personal alternative, we offer a complimentary, digitally designed SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format (landscape orientation) — individually tailored to the occasion, recipient, and sender.

Care

Clean the acrylic ring regularly with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. Care for the mirror-polished silver as needed using a soft silver polishing cloth, following the direction of the ribs. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, abrasive materials, and the dishwasher. Keep both materials stored in a dry place, away from direct light.
