Description

A coffee set made of 925 sterling silver, highly polished, consisting of a classic turka – the Turkish mocha pot – with a traditional black turned wooden handle and a matching mocha spoon with a branch-shaped stem. Both pieces feature sculptural dragonfly figures as three-dimensional embellishments: two dragonflies on the side of the turka's body, one dragonfly crowning the spoon's stem. We call this design "Libellula" – Latin for dragonfly. Delivered in a velvet-lined premium case, ready to be gifted.

Material and workmanship

Both pieces – turka and spoon – are made of 925 sterling silver, meaning 92.5% pure silver, solid throughout. The surface is highly polished, the dragonfly sculptures are made of the same material and are also highly polished: no gilding, no black inlay, no patination – pure sterling silver in its classic look. The piece is entirely cast from 925 sterling silver, with the stem and dragonfly cast in one piece, not glued or soldered. You can feel the weight of the solid cast silver in your hand, and the delicate modeling of the dragonfly wings can be seen when held between your fingers. Important to know: Pure silver tarnishes over time with everyday use, a chemical reaction with sulfur compounds from the air. On highly polished pieces, this appears as a slight yellow to gray tint after a few months, which can be restored to a mirror finish in a few minutes with a soft silver polishing cloth.

Use and occasions

The turka is the traditional tool for Turkish, Greek, and Armenian mocha: a bulbous shape, wide neck, and a long wooden handle, with which the pot is heated over an open flame. Water, very finely ground mocha powder, and sugar are heated in the pot over a small flame until the foam rises, and then served in mocha cups – coffee preparation as a ritual, not as a function. The mocha spoon with its small, drop-shaped bowl (approx. 5 ml volume) is precisely designed for this consumption, for example, for sugar portions or skimming off the foam. As a gift, the Libellula set is suitable for occasions where value and ritual should come together: for a silver or golden wedding anniversary as a main centerpiece of table silver, for a round birthday for coffee lovers and collectors, for retirement from a leadership position as a lasting heirloom, or as a diplomatic business gift of the highest caliber.

Engraving and SilberVerse Card

Both pieces of the set can be engraved upon request: the bottom of the turka with discreet initials, a date, or a short dedication, the back of the spoon handle with initials or a monogram. The same engraving on both pieces works as a connecting gesture, for example, for a wedding date. We discuss the font, depth, and position before execution; for high-value pieces like this, we recommend a sketch for approval beforehand. As a personal addition, we also offer a free SilberVerse card in photo format, 15 × 10 cm in landscape orientation, digitally customized for the occasion and recipient.

Care

After each coffee use, you should immediately rinse the inside of the turka with lukewarm water, otherwise coffee acids will attack the silver. Wipe the outside normally, polishing dry with a soft cloth – no abrasive cleaners, no soaking in the sink. The wooden handle should not be submerged in water; wiping it damp is sufficient. The set is best stored in the supplied case, ideally with anti-tarnish strips.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Turka?
The turka, also called cezve or Turkish coffee pot, is the traditional vessel for Turkish mocha – a bulbous pot with a wide neck and a long handle, made for preparation over an open flame. In Russia, Turkey, Greece, Armenia, and the Levant, it is the standard tool for classic mocha.

Is the Turka suitable for induction?
No – 925 sterling silver does not work on induction because the material is not ferromagnetic. The turka is made for open flames like gas or traditional charcoal; it can be used on electric ceramic cooktops, but the traditional atmosphere is best achieved over an open flame.

What does the dragonfly motif mean?
In Russian culture, everyone knows the dragonfly from Krylov's fable "Стрекоза и муравей" (The Dragonfly and the Ant) as a symbol of carefree summer lightness. In the Western European table silver context, it stands for change, transformation, and grace – a doubly meaningful motif for the mocha ritual, representing gentle movement and quiet enjoyment.
