Material and workmanship

The “Laune” stands on a compact base that gives it height and stability — the conical shape widens upwards, narrow at the base, wide at the top, with a slightly flared rim. Gold plating and niello are used deliberately separately: the entire interior is fully gold-plated, with an additional gold-plated strip at the top rim and one at the foot. The outer wall, by contrast, is frosted—no gold, no high polish, only muted silk-silver. This is exactly where the niello band with Baroque arabesques and acanthus scrolls sits — curved vines, symmetrical leaves, spirals, every line drawn into the silver by hand with a burin and filled with black niello inlay, fused, ground flush, and polished — like ink in silver. For decades, SevChern in Veliky Ustyug has been translating this design language of the European Baroque into the manufactory's niello tradition, which was awarded a gold medal at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris.

Usage and occasions

130 ml is the serving size for a sorbet, a panna cotta, chocolate mousse, or caviar with garnishes. The conical shape shows the contents completely from above and the niello band from the side — both visible on the table at the same time. Empty, the “Laune” is a standalone decorative piece that needs no contents to make an impact in a display case or on a sideboard. Care

Clean the bowl exclusively by hand with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. No dishwasher, no silver dip — both will damage the gold plating. Never treat the gold-plated surfaces with abrasive cleaners. The niello band is fused and permanent; normal cleaning will not harm it. A soft silver polishing cloth can be used to freshen up the frosted silver on the outside without losing the character of the brushed surface. Keep the piece in the gift case.
