Material and workmanship

At the end of the handle sits a small medallion with the rings motif – two intertwined, gilded rings as a Slavic symbol for marriage. Beneath this is a floral ornament, hand-engraved into the silver and permanently filled with niello. Niello is a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, ground flat, and polished – like ink in silver – not a paint or a layer that fades. The full gilding with fine gold encompasses this medallion and extends over the entire spoon – from the bowl to the handle end. This protects the silver and gives the spoon the warm gold tone that stands out on every breakfast table.
