Niello is not a modern finishing technique: it is a black metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is fused into engraved depressions, fired at high temperatures, and forms a chemical bond with the base silver. Insoluble, durable, without coating.

Each piece of this service goes through at least 15 individual work steps before leaving the manufacture. The niello ornament on the cup is hand-engraved — each line drawn with a graver. The silver niello service (e.g. SW10206) is entirely in silver without gilding — clearer, cooler. Both have the same niello ornament on matted 925 silver. It's a matter of style: warm and golden or pure silver.

How long does production take?
