Tea strainer "Nielloa pot" on a chain made of 925 silver

This tea strainer made of 925 sterling silver also follows the tea egg design: a perforated sphere on a silver chain, topped by a curved pendant with a floral niello ornament. It belongs to the Nielloa collection by SevChern from Veliky Ustyug and is suitable for all loose-leaf teas.

Material and craftsmanship

The silver sphere is finely perforated so that the tea aroma can move freely into the cup while the leaves are held back. The pendant at the end of the chain bears a floral niello ornament—a blossom with surrounding tendrils, dark-fused into the engraved lines of the silver. This niello technique combines chemically and physically with the metal; it does not lie on the surface, but is part of it. SevChern from Veliky Ustyug is considered one of the few manufactories that still carries out this centuries-old hand engraving in this form.

Usage and occasions

The sphere is opened, filled with loose tea, and hung in the hot cup by the chain. Once the desired steeping time is reached, it can be cleanly removed by the end of the chain without your fingers getting near the hot water. As a gift, a silver tea strainer is suitable for birthdays, Mother's Day, housewarmings, or as a compact addition to a larger silver gift. Anyone who knows someone who celebrates tea rather than just drinking it will find this piece a small but lasting gesture.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

An engraving on the pendant is possible upon request—we will coordinate the appropriate area and shape individually before the order is placed. In addition, we enclose a SilberVerse card: a digitally designed photo in landscape format (15 × 10 cm), personally inscribed and free of charge. Together, the tea strainer becomes a gift with its own story.

Care

After use, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry immediately. Remove tea residue with a soft brush; do not put it in the dishwasher under any circumstances. Do not scrub the niello ornament, just wipe it gently—over time, the contrast between the polished silver and the dark niello will gain depth.

Frequently asked questions

Which tea varieties is the strainer suitable for?

For all loose-leaf teas, from coarse-leaf black tea to herbal blends. For very fine tea, an additional paper filter insert is recommended so that even the smallest leaf particles are retained.

Does the sphere fit in every cup?

With a width of around 49 mm, the pendant area fits into most standard cups. For very narrow espresso cups, it is worth measuring beforehand.

What distinguishes this tea strainer from the tea egg with a lyre-shaped pendant?

Both share the same spherical shape and functionality. The difference lies solely in the shape and ornament of the pendant—here a curved floral shape, there a lyre silhouette. Which motif suits better is a matter of personal taste.
