Material and craftsmanship

The carafe features a curved loop handle and a lid with a silver ring knob, ensuring it sits securely in the hand from the first glass to the last. From the bulbous base up to the tapering neck, a dense niello ornament of acanthus leaves, vines, and small blossoms flows across the surface — not a rigid band of patterns, but a freely composed design that carves its own path over the silver. The vines start bold and voluminous at the base, becoming finer and lighter toward the neck.

The niello inlay is an alloy that is hand-fused into engraved depressions, creating a chemical-physical bond with the silver — it is not a lacquer that can peel off, but a permanent connection that even deepens with polishing over the years. The Florentina is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where the art of niello has been documented since 1683; each piece goes through around 15 stages of work there, from shaping to polishing. The carafe is crafted without gilding — 925 silver and deep black niello carry the entire aesthetic impact.

Usage and occasions

2,850 ml is enough for six to ten people without the need for a refill — the Florentina is designed as a serving carafe for tables of significance: weddings, silver anniversaries, milestone birthdays, corporate events, or housewarmings. As a wedding gift, it carries a second layer of meaning, as the acanthus motif has symbolized stability and endurance since antiquity. Those looking for a representative piece for an anniversary or a corporate event will find the Florentina to be a table piece that speaks for itself.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The Florentina can be personalized with an engraving upon review — a date, a name, or a short phrase, subtly embedded between the acanthus vines or as a deliberate focal point on the front. It is best to get in touch beforehand to discuss the possibilities.

Upon request, we include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm, landscape) — digitally customized to suit the occasion, free of charge. Can also be ordered without an engraving.

Care

For cleaning, a soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient; avoid aggressive polishes or chemical dips. Silver polish can be used on the surfaces without niello; it is not necessary on the inlaid ornaments. The patina that forms over the years enhances the contrast between the silver and the niello.

Frequently asked questions

How does solid 925 silver differ from silver-plated tableware?
Silver-plated tableware has only a thin layer of silver over a base metal, which can wear off over time. The Florentina is made entirely of 925 sterling silver, with no core of other metal.

How do I properly care for niello silver?
Niello silver is relatively easy to care for: a soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient. Silver polish is not necessary on the niello surfaces, as the patina there deepens the contrast.

Is the Florentina suitable as a wedding gift?
Very much so — the acanthus motif has stood for stability since antiquity, and the carafe is designed for longevity with its 925 solid silver and niello inlay. Further gift ideas can be found under 925 silver gift ideas.
