Material and craftsmanship

The carafe is crafted from 925 sterling silver, featuring a pear-shaped body and a slim, tapering neck. A trumpet-shaped spout ensures a clean, drip-free pour, a curved C-handle sits securely in the hand, and the lid closes with a round ball knob. A broad frieze of large, circular rosettes lies on the body — mandala-like blossoms, symmetrical and geometrically floral in design, alternating with a fine zigzag border. On the neck, the floral theme is repeated in a small rectangular field featuring grapes and vines. No gold, no gilding — only the 925 sterling silver and the deep niello black provide the entire effect.

Niello is neither paint nor lacquer, but a dark metal alloy that is melted by hand into every engraved line, forming a chemical-physical bond with the silver — imagine it as ink that permanently sinks into the metal. It takes about 15 steps to complete a piece until the rosettes glow with such depth. With polishing, the contrasts become even clearer over time — the carafe becomes more beautiful the more often you use it. It is crafted by SevChern, a manufactory in Veliky Ustyug, where the art of niello has been documented since 1683.
