Coffee cup Hops 925 silver Niello and porcelain – gold plated

An espresso served in an ordinary cup remains an espresso. In this coffee cup, it becomes a ritual: the porcelain holds the coffee, the silver mount holds the story. A niello band featuring hop cones and leaves encircles the base, deep black against polished 925 sterling silver, with gold-plated contours that catch the light. Whether you are consciously seeking a break in the morning or want to enjoy a mocha after dinner, this cup from the Hop Collection offers more than just a drinking vessel – it is a small piece of Russian silversmithing for your own table.

Material and Craftsmanship

The Hop coffee cup combines two materials that complement each other in function and effect: a porcelain insert handles the actual task of drinking, keeping the taste neutral. The 925 sterling silver mount embraces the porcelain like a piece of jewelry and bears the hop motif that gives this collection its name. Every line of the hop leaf and every cone was engraved into the silver individually and then inlaid with a classic niello alloy—that millennia-old technique in which a black silver-sulfur compound is fused into the engraving and polished until it is permanently bonded to the metal. It does not peel off, and it does not fade. The handle and base of the mount are gold-plated, providing a warm contrast to the silvery-black ornamental band. The silver mount is hallmarked.

Usage and Occasions

With a 50 ml capacity, the cup is intended for espresso, mocha, or a small, strong coffee—not for a large mug of filter coffee, but for a conscious sip. It fits perfectly at the desk, in the study, in the library, or on the side table after dinner. As a gift, the Hop coffee cup is suitable for birthdays, anniversaries, or as a prestigious present for coffee lovers who value craftsmanship over quantity. It can also be added individually to an existing collection of Hop silver—such as a spoon, milk jug, or sugar bowl from the same series.

Engraving and SilberVerse Card

Engraving is possible subject to review—please contact us before ordering with your request so we can agree on the appropriate surface together. As a personal addition, we also offer the SilberVerse card: a 15 × 10 cm (landscape) photo, designed individually for the occasion and recipient, free of charge. It accompanies the gift with a dedication that lasts.

Care

The silver mount should be cleaned exclusively by hand—mild dish soap, a soft cloth, no dishwasher, and no silver dip. The porcelain insert can be rinsed separately with warm water. Scouring agents or aggressive cleaners should generally be avoided, as they attack both the gold plating and the polish of the silver. The niello engraving itself requires no special care—it is permanently anchored in the metal and the contrast actually deepens the more it is polished.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 50 ml size best suited for?
For espresso, double espresso, mocha, or a small, strong coffee. The compact size follows the philosophy that coffee should be enjoyed in small, intense portions rather than diluted in large quantities.

Can I have the cup personalized?
Yes, engraving is possible upon review. Write to us before ordering to let us know which area you would like for a name, initials, or a date, and we will check the feasibility together.

Does the cup match other pieces in the Hop collection?
Yes. In addition to this coffee cup, the Hop collection includes spoons, milk jugs, sugar bowls, and larger pots—all featuring the same niello hop motif, allowing you to assemble a complete ensemble piece by piece.
