Material and Workmanship

A bear faces a hunting dog, the scene completely fills the round medallion on the front – with forest, bushes, and moving clouds in the background. The motif is captured in niello ink on polished 925 silver: the dark is the niello, the light is the silver, and between them lies the drama of a scene that has been told for centuries in Russian silversmithing. A continuous ornamental band with floral tendrils frames the round medallion. Unlike the other rectangular hip flasks in the collection, this one feels like a pocket watch in your hand – you involuntarily turn it and discover the motif anew from every angle. It is manufactured in the SevChern manufactory in Veliky Ustyug.

Rinse the inside with warm water, clean the outside with a soft silver polishing cloth. Do not put in the dishwasher. The niello itself requires no special care – the incorporated ornaments are abrasion-resistant and permanently retain their contrast; it even deepens over time.
