Material and workmanship

The niello pattern on this plate follows an Art Deco-inspired ornamental principle: two parallel niello lines frame the rim above and below. Between the lines are four symmetrically distributed corner ornaments – each a composition of palm-leaf-like volutes and geometric lines, set into the polished 925 silver. The contrast between deep black niello and bright silver is clearly visible from any distance. The pattern belongs to the SevChern hunting collection, one of the manufacturer's four major ornament families, which is used as a design language across plates, carafes, hip flasks, and cups. The plate is divided into two zones: the rim carries the ornament, while the mirror in the center remains highly polished and unornamented – space for food, nothing distracts.
