Material and craftsmanship

The Astra Classic coffee cup consists of two harmoniously connected parts: a thin-walled white porcelain insert and a 925 sterling silver mount. The mount encloses the porcelain like an elegant shell – an inner rim holds the porcelain securely in place, while the base of the mount remains open, allowing the porcelain to rest on its own bottom. The gold-plated handle is elegantly curved for a secure grip. A hand-engraved niello floral band runs around the center of the mount: floral motifs in black and gold, typical of the Astra Classic collection and crafted using elaborate niello hand-engraving by the SevChern Manufactory. The combination of white porcelain, gold-plated silver, and black niello creates a timeless contrast.

Usage and occasions

With a 50 ml capacity, the Astra Classic coffee cup is designed for concentrated coffee enjoyment: a double espresso, a Turkish mocha, a strong Russian coffee, or a small cortado. It is as suitable for that mindful moment after a meal as it is for the daily coffee break, when quality matters more than quantity. As a gift, it is perfect for coffee lovers who already own or wish for an Astra Classic tea service, and is ready for gifting thanks to the included gift box.

Perfectly matches the Astra Classic tea service

The Astra Classic coffee cup is the harmonious addition to the tea service of the same name. Both feature the same niello floral band, both utilize porcelain in a silver mount, and both come from the same manufactory. With tea cups (130 ml, for tea) and coffee cups (50 ml, for concentrated coffee), you can create a versatile service for different beverages – whether for afternoon tea or a strong coffee after dinner. Together with the Astra Classic saucers as well as the teapot, sugar bowl, and milk jug, a complete service can be assembled for any occasion.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Personalization is possible on the inside – upon review, we can engrave names, dates, or initials on the interior of the silver mount. Unfortunately, there is no space for an engraving on the outside, as the niello floral band occupies the entire available surface. Additionally, we offer the SilberVerse card: a photo in 15 × 10 cm format (landscape), individually designed and free of charge.

Care

We recommend hand washing to preserve the gold plating, niello band, and porcelain. After use, rinse the cup with warm water and a mild detergent, then dry with a soft cloth. The high-gloss gold plating and the hand-engraved niello band are sensitive to aggressive detergents and mechanical stress in the dishwasher, and the porcelain could crack at high temperatures. With careful hand washing, the coffee cup will remain flawless for decades.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the cup only hold 50 ml?
The size follows the traditional Russian coffee culture, in which coffee is enjoyed not in large quantities, but in small, intense portions – similar to espresso or mocha. This keeps the coffee concentrated rather than diluted.

Does the coffee cup match the Astra Classic tea service?
Yes. Both feature the same hand-engraved niello floral band, use porcelain in a silver mount, and come from the same manufactory – tea cups and coffee cups can be combined as desired.

Can the coffee cup be personalized?
Yes, on the inside upon review. No engraving is possible on the outside due to the full-surface niello floral band.
