Material and Workmanship

The classic conical cezve silhouette has been physically adapted to Turkish Mokka since the 16th century: The wide base quickly absorbs heat, the narrowing neck concentrates the rising heat and holds the foam crown together. The long beechwood handle with a silver cuff insulates the hand, while niello — an alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur — is fused into the engraved depressions, forming a chemical-physical bond with the silver. The result does not fade: with every polish, the surrounding silver becomes brighter, while the niello remains deep black, and the contrast becomes more striking.

Use and Occasions

370 ml is enough for 3 to 4 Turkish Mokka cups of 60–70 ml each — in Turkish, this is called a "4-lük" Cezve. Suitable heat sources include gas, electric, ceramic hob, open fire, and the traditional sand bath; induction and microwave are not suitable, as silver is not ferromagnetic. Hand wash only, no dishwasher. Clean the body with a silver polishing cloth, niello does not tarnish and requires no special treatment. Never immerse the beechwood handle in water, occasionally rub lightly with walnut oil to prevent the wood from drying out.
