The decanter consists of a bulbous body with a narrow neck and a fully gold-plated lid, the lower edge of which features a narrow niello floral band—a subtle transition to the neck. The lid closes airtight, protecting spirits from evaporation and oxidation. The matte exterior of the body features a wrap-around niello frieze of blossoms and vines with a deep black inlay. Gold-plated rings run along the neck and the lower body, emphasizing the proportions of the decanter—the combination of matte silver, gold-plated rings, and black niello blossoms defines the entire Astra Classic line.

Material and craftsmanship

Niello is neither paint nor lacquer, but an alloy that is fused into engraved depressions and forms a permanent bond with the silver. For the Astra Classic, the floral band is engraved by hand into the matte silver surface and then filled with the dark niello compound. The gold plating on the lid and rings is an additional level of refinement that is applied selectively—not over the entire surface, but as a frame around the matte silver. This creates the characteristic triad of matte silver, black niello, and gleaming gold that unites the entire Astra Classic line, from cups to decanters.

Usage and occasions

With a 300 ml capacity, the decanter is dimensioned for several glasses of whiskey or cognac—suitable for an evening with guests as well as for conscious enjoyment for two. The bulbous shape allows for drip-free pouring, the narrow neck concentrates the aroma, and the airtight lid protects against evaporation. Suitable for single malt whiskey, bourbon, cognac, brandy, vodka, or fruit brandies. As a gift, it is perfect for weddings, milestone birthdays, or as a representative piece for connoisseurs who value a dignified presentation of their spirits.

Care

Hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap preserves the gold plating and niello inlays. Rinse with warm water after use and dry with a soft cloth. The lid should be cleaned separately. Avoid aggressive detergents and scouring agents, as they can damage the gold plating. The matte exterior can be freshened up with a silver polishing cloth if necessary.
