Material and workmanship

The Astra Classic gravy boat consists of an oval, slightly bulbous body with an elegant spout and a curved handle. The interior is fully gold-plated with a high-gloss finish – a surface that presents meat juices, béchamel, or hollandaise in a warm, refined way while remaining flavor-neutral. The exterior is matted and features hand-engraved niello floral vines in a deep black inlay, which form a calm contrast to the golden sheen. The handle and the ring on the base are also gold-plated, so that gold and matte silver repeat throughout the entire piece. Niello is an ancient technique: the black silver alloy is fired into the engraved indentations and forms a permanent, chemical-physical bond with the silver – it is not a lacquer or a coating that could peel off.

Usage and occasions

With a 200 ml capacity, the Astra Classic gravy boat is intended for a generous amount of meat juices, béchamel, hollandaise, red wine sauce, or cream sauce – ideal for dinner parties or feasts for several people. The practical spout allows for drip-free pouring, and the curved handle sits securely in the hand, even when the gravy boat is full. Beyond its classic use for warm sauces, it is also suitable for cold dressings, cream for dessert, or syrup for breakfast. As a gift for a wedding, housewarming, or as a special thank you, an engraving on the outside makes the gravy boat a unique, personal item.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The matted outer surface between the niello floral vines offers space for a personal engraving upon review – such as a date, initials, or a short dedication. Please discuss your engraving request with us when ordering; the surfaces will be individually coordinated with the workshop. Upon request, we can include a personalized SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format – free of charge and a special unique addition to your gift.

Care

We recommend hand washing with warm water and mild dish soap to protect the gold plating and niello inlays. Rinse the gravy boat after use and dry it with a soft cloth. Dishwashers and mechanical stress should be avoided, as the high-gloss gold plating and fine engravings are sensitive to aggressive cleaning. For stubborn residues, let it soak briefly in warm water.
