Material and workmanship

The Astra Classic gravy boat consists of an oval, slightly bulbous body with an elegant spout and a curved handle. The interior is fully high-gloss gilded – a surface that presents gravy, béchamel, or hollandaise warmly and elegantly, while also being taste-neutral. The exterior is frosted and features hand-engraved niello floral tendrils in deep black inlay, creating a serene contrast to the golden shine. The handle and the ring at the foot are also gilded, so that gold and frosted silver repeat throughout the piece. Niello is a millennia-old technique: The black silver alloy is burned into the engraved depressions and forms a permanent, chemical-physical bond with the silver – not a lacquer, no layer that could peel off.

Care
