Material and Workmanship

The body of the Astra Classic is conically shaped, without a base – typical for the Russian vodka and shot tradition. The interior is completely highly polished gilded, a surface that makes schnapps or vodka appear warm and noble, remains taste-neutral, and at the same time protects the silver from discoloration. The upper rim is widely gilded and forms an elegant finish, below which a narrow gilded ring runs. The exterior is frosted and features three symmetrically arranged niello floral groups: a central group at the front, two on the sides, each with tendrils and leaves in deep black niello filling, with one flower in each group being gilded – the characteristic accent of the Astra Classic line. This combination of fully gilded interior, frosted silver surfaces, black niello decorations, and gilded accents comes from the SevChern manufactory and harmonizes with the decanter, the cognac glass, and all other Astra pieces.

Use and Occasions

With a capacity of 25 ml, the glass is dimensioned appropriately for short spirits: a generous portion of schnapps, a classic vodka, a liqueur, or a fine grappa. The conical shape – wider at the top, narrower at the bottom – fits comfortably in the hand when drinking, and the lack of a foot element makes the glass authentically Russian: in this tradition, shot and vodka glasses are not swirled like a cognac glass, but are drunk in one gulp or consciously sipped.
