Material and workmanship

At the end of the handle sits a small medallion with the rings motif—two interlocking, gilded rings as a Slavic symbol for marriage. Beneath this lies a floral ornament, hand-engraved into the silver and permanently filled with niello, a black sulfur-silver alloy. Niello bonds chemically and physically with the silver underneath, meaning it is neither a paint nor a layer that will fade. The full fine-gold plating surrounds this medallion and extends over the entire spoon, from the bowl to the end of the handle. This protects the silver, ensures no metallic taste is imparted to food, and gives the spoon the warm golden hue that stands out on any breakfast table.
