Material and workmanship

The three floral groups are distributed symmetrically across the matte silver surface — one at the top, two at the sides — and are rendered entirely in niello black. Unlike the Astra Gold saucer, the Classic version consciously eschews gold-plated accent flowers, showcasing the niello hand-engraving in its most original form. Niello is a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, sanded flat, and polished — like ink in silver — not a lacquer or plating, but part of the metal itself. The high-gloss gold-plated rim frames this ornament, providing the only warm accent on the otherwise matte surface.

Usage and occasions

With a diameter of 120 mm, this saucer offers slightly more surface area than the 110 mm Astra Gold version — leaving space for a small pastry or a spoon beside the cup. It complements both teacups in the Astra collection and can be combined flexibly: harmoniously with the Astra Classic teacup or interchangeably with the Astra Gold teacup. A silver polishing cloth is suitable for the silver surface; do not use aggressive cleaning agents or scouring cream. The niello inlays are sensitive to mechanical stress, so do not use a dishwasher or silver dipping bath. Store in a dry place, preferably in the gift case.
