Silver Carafe 925 Silver Gilt Paisley 550 ml

A silver carafe made of 925 sterling silver with a gold-plated hinged lid, handle, spout, and base, decorated with finely drawn paisley vines in niello. The slender, teardrop-shaped silhouette of this SevChern carafe is reminiscent of oriental pouring vessels and unites three material layers in one piece: silver, niello, and gold. With a 550 ml capacity, it is just as suitable for spirits as it is for water, wine, or mocha.

The gold-plated hinged lid with its onion-shaped knob cites Persian architecture. The gold handle, gold spout, gold base, and the gold border with drop ornaments at the bottom edge form a luminous frame around the centerpiece of the carafe: finely drawn paisley vines made of niello, inlaid into the 925 sterling silver. The hinged lid allows for one-handed pouring—a small but practical detail for authentic use.

Material and craftsmanship

Niello is neither a paint nor a lacquer, but a black inlay that is fused into the engraved lines, sanded flush, and polished – like ink in silver — durable and becoming more beautiful over time, as the contrasts deepen with polishing. In the SevChern workshop in Veliky Ustyug, the patterns are created in around 15 work steps per piece. The paisley motif itself has Persian-Indian roots and stands for the tree of life and the eternal cycle — an aesthetic tradition that reached Europe via the Silk Road and lives on today in Russian niello craftsmanship. The gilding on 925 silver is durable with proper care: avoid abrasive agents or the dishwasher; instead, use a soft cloth and occasional polishing to maintain the shine for many years.

Use and occasions

550 ml is a practically considered capacity: four to six generous shot glasses can be filled, ideal for an evening with guests. The same carafe functions as a wine decanter for one or two glasses of white wine, as a table carafe for water, or as a pot for Turkish mocha — the spout pours precisely. As a gift, the paisley carafe is suitable for a silver wedding anniversary, a milestone birthday, a business anniversary, or as a lasting memento of a special moment.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The smooth silver surfaces between the niello ornaments offer space for a personal engraving upon review — a date, a name, a dedication. Upon request, we can include a personal SilberVerse card in 15 × 10 cm photo format — individually designed, tailored to the occasion, and free of charge. Simply indicate your request in the comment field when ordering.

Care

Wipe the pot with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth after each use. No scouring powder, no ultrasonic cleaners, no dishwasher — the gilding will reward you with lasting shine. Niello itself is particularly easy to maintain: the more often you polish the pot, the deeper the contrasts between the black pattern and the shiny silver background become.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the gilding on silver last?
Very durable with normal care — over many years. The decisive factor is a soft, non-abrasive cloth; avoid dishwashers and aggressive cleaning agents.

Can the carafe also be used as a coffee pot?
Yes. 550 ml is ideal for mocha or strong coffee — enough for two to four small cups. The precise spout makes pouring a gesture.

How do I care for gold-plated niello silver?
Wipe with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. No scouring powder, no ultrasonic cleaners, no dishwasher. Polishing makes the niello more high-contrast, not worse.
