Material and Workmanship

The carafe features a curved loop handle and a lid with a silver ring knob, making it secure to hold from the first to the last pour. From its bulbous base up to its tapering neck, a dense niello ornament of acanthus leaves, tendrils, and small blossoms extends — not a rigid pattern band, but a freely composed surface that finds its own way across the silver. The tendrils begin strong and voluminous at the base and become finer and lighter towards the neck.

The niello inlay is an alloy that is hand-melted into engraved depressions and forms a chemical-physical bond with the silver — not a lacquer that can peel, but a permanent bond that deepens over the years with polishing. The Florentina is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where niello art has been documented since 1683; each piece undergoes around 15 steps from shaping to polishing. The carafe is made without gilding — pure 925 silver and deep black niello create the entire effect.
