Kettle 925 Silver Niello "Bohemian Waxwing" — 2.6 L Whistling Kettle

Material and craftsmanship

A floral ornamental frieze runs along the belly of the kettle—fine scrolls, foliage, and spirals inlaid in dark niello and framed by polished silver lines. The result is a matte-gloss contrast: mirror finish in the surrounding silver, matte black in the niello depressions. This signature look is created during a specific polishing phase, in which the interior of the niello remains deliberately matte while the silver is polished. For the niello itself, a black silver alloy is fused into the engraved lines using an open flame, creating a permanent bond with the silver—not an applied paint, but a chemical-physical connection that only becomes more beautiful over time with polishing. The precious wood arched handle sits above the lid, and the opening knob is also made of wood, ensuring the hand rests on a cool surface when the kettle is hot.

Use and occasions

The kettle holds 2.6 liters—enough for a tea service for several people, intended for the tradition where water is served at the table. The whistling spout on the side provides the classic signal when the water reaches its boiling point. The kettle is intended as a centerpiece: once boiled, it is placed on a tray and travels to the table with the tea. It is suited for special moments—silver or golden weddings, company anniversaries, honors, retirement, or as a piece for your own silver collection. Engraving and SilberVerse card

Engraving is possible upon verification before ordering. Discreet areas such as the bottom rim of the kettle, the edge of the lid, or the inner surface of the lid are suitable—areas that do not interfere with the niello motif. In addition, we will create a complimentary SilberVerse card for you in a 15 × 10 cm photo format—a digitally designed, one-of-a-kind piece for a gift with a personal touch.

Care

925 silver is best cared for with a soft cloth and mild dish soap, followed by immediate polishing until dry. No dishwasher, no aggressive cleaning agents—the niello lines would suffer as a result. Do not scrub the niello surfaces; simply pass gently over the polished areas with the cloth. The wooden handle and wooden knob should be wiped dry separately and never soaked.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 2.6-liter silver kettle suitable for?

For tea services for several people and for table settings where the piece itself is part of the presentation. As a regular kettle for everyday use, it would be oversized—its place is at the festive table.

What does "Waxwing" mean?

Waxwing is the name of the niello motif, named after the songbird of the same name, whose feather pattern inspired the floral ornamental structure. It is not a literal depiction of the bird, but an abstracted ornamental line.

How do I care for the kettle over the years?

Polish dry after every use and keep the wooden handle dry. In case of tarnish after several years, gently polish with a silver polishing cloth, avoiding the niello surfaces. Store in a dry place, ideally in an anti-tarnish bag.
