Material and workmanship

The bowl and handle of this teaspoon are gilded, featuring a warm golden sheen on matte silver. At the end of the handle, a floral niello band continues – blossoms and tendrils in a botanical plant style, hand-engraved into the silver and fused with the black niello alloy. Niello is not a color or a coating, but a metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur that chemically and physically bonds with the base silver, thus ensuring it does not fade. What is on this spoon today will still be there in thirty years. SevChern, an active manufacturer of niello silver of this kind, has been working with this technique since 1933 – with over 15 steps per piece.

Care

Clean the spoon by hand with lukewarm water and mild dish soap. Avoid dishwashers and silver dips. The niello ornament is permanently fused and tolerates normal cleaning; you should only polish the gilded bowl with a soft cloth. Store the spoon in its gift box.
