Children's cup fish 925 silver

A children's cup that remains long after the baby bottle is forgotten: this 925 sterling silver cup features a cheerful fish motif in vibrant enamel set against polished silver — a first drinking vessel that doubles as a keepsake. The fish is one of the oldest symbols in existence: representing luck, abundance, and the ability to navigate the currents of life. In the Christian tradition, as the Ichthys, it also stands for faith itself — a multilayered image for a child just beginning their own journey.

Material and craftsmanship

The fish motif is crafted using intricate enamel techniques directly onto the polished silver: colored glass powder, fired at high temperatures and permanently fused with the precious metal. This makes the colors lightfast and abrasion-resistant—no painted or glued-on elements. The rest of the cup remains pure, high-polish 925 sterling silver—deliberately minimalist to let the motif stand out. This piece is created by Russkiye Samotsvety of St. Petersburg, a house with roots dating back to 1912.

Use and occasions

As an Ichthys symbol, the fish makes this cup a natural choice for a christening gift with a Christian connection, while its role as a universal symbol of luck makes it equally suitable as a birth gift—wishing the child abundance and a good start in life. Since the motif does not convey specific color codes or gender roles, the cup is perfectly suited for both girls and boys. Godparents give it for the christening ceremony, grandparents as a first silver piece for their grandchild, and it remains a fitting gift for a first birthday as well.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

Upon request, we can engrave a name, date of birth, or a short personal dedication on the cup—turning the drinking vessel into a keepsake with its own name. On request, we also include the SilberVerse card with your order: an individually designed card in 15 × 10 cm landscape format, matched to the occasion and motif, free of charge and unique every time.

Care

Clean by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. The enamel motif should not come into contact with silver dip. The cup is not dishwasher safe. You can gently polish the smooth silver surfaces with a silver polishing cloth if necessary to maintain their shine.

Frequently asked questions

Is the children's cup suitable as a christening gift with a religious connection?

Yes—the fish, as the Ichthys, is one of the oldest Christian symbols and discreetly connects faith with an object that becomes part of your child’s everyday life. You can find more ideas in our 925 sterling silver gift ideas collection.

What should I look for in a silver cup for children?

925 sterling silver consists of 92.5% fine silver and has a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Ensure the size is appropriate for the age, allow young children to drink from it only under supervision, and clean the cup after every use.

Is the cup also suitable as a birth gift, without a christening connection?

Yes. Alongside its Christian meaning, the fish carries the older symbolism of luck and abundance—a cup that works just as well as a birth gift without any religious context.
