Material and workmanship
The beehive is one of the most vibrant motifs in Russian silversmithing: a secure home, busy inhabitants, the promise of sweetness. On this mug, the motif is hand-engraved – every bee a stroke of the burin, every line a manual intervention in the metal. The dark niello inlays give the contours their depth; niello is neither paint nor lacquer, but a black inlay that is melted into engraved depressions, ground flush, and polished – like ink in silver. The mug is crafted by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, where the niello tradition has been documented since 1683.
Occasions and target groups
In many cultures, bees and the beehive stand for diligence, community, and the sweetness of life – as a motif on a children's mug, it carries a simple, beautiful message: Life has good things in store. This mug is suitable as a baptismal gift, as the first piece of silver a child receives and keeps for a lifetime. The bee motif also fits well with the spring symbolism of Easter, and for a first birthday, it marks a milestone that won't disappear into a toy basket by next spring. Godparents, parents, and grandparents who appreciate nature and garden motifs will find a gift with character here.
Engraving and SilberVerse card
An engraving is possible upon review – a name, a date, or a baptismal verse. Talk to us; we would be happy to advise you on placement and execution. Upon request, we will enclose an individual SilberVerse card (15 × 10 cm) – with a personal text from the giver, tailored to the child and the occasion. The card is free of charge and is created individually for every order; simply state your request in the order field.
Care
Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap; do not use a dishwasher. Please refrain from using silver dipping baths – the niello inlays would be damaged. Protect the gilding on the handle with a soft cloth; do not use abrasive polishes. The included gift box is suitable for storage and protects against tarnishing.
