Material and Craftsmanship

The dark niello inlays give the contours their depth; niello is not a paint or varnish, but a black metal alloy of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, which is melted into engraved depressions at over 800 degrees Celsius and insolubly bonded with the silver. The cup is manufactured by SevChern in Veliky Ustyug, a northern Russian factory that has nurtured this tradition since 1683.

Hand wash with warm water and mild detergent, no dishwasher. Please avoid silver dip cleaners – the niello inlays would be damaged. Protect the gilding on the handle with a soft cloth, do not use abrasive polishes. The included gift box is suitable for storage and protects against tarnishing.
