Description
A baby rattle made of 925 sterling silver with a guardian angel in relief – a chubby child's face with large eyes, a halo above its head, and widely spread wings. For you, if you are looking for a christening gift that visibly conveys protection and blessing.
At a glance
- Material: 925 sterling silver
- Motif/Shape: Stem rattle with round medallion, angel/putto in relief, ribbon-decorated stem
- Length: approx. 14 cm
Material and workmanship
The round medallion features an angel in raised relief – the contours of the wings, the roundness of the cheeks, and the delicate ring of the halo can be felt with the fingertips. The drop-shaped tapering stem is adorned with decorative longitudinal grooves and a small bow at the lower end. A white silk ribbon at the transition between the medallion and the stem adds a delicate accent. Crafted by the Russian silver manufacturer ArgentA.
Use and development
As the first grasping and auditory object, the round medallion fits well in small hands – the circular, flat shape is easy to grasp. When shaken, small balls inside create a gentle rattling sound. From about 3 to 4 months, babies grasp and shake the rattle themselves; the drop-shaped stem with its longitudinal grooves fits well in the fist and provides a good grip. The raised contours of the angel invite tactile exploration and promote fine motor skills. The angel is one of the oldest symbols that can be given to a newborn: It stands for protection, faith, and blessing – a guardian angel who watches over the child and accompanies them through life without being seen. The spread wings on the medallion represent this protective shield, the halo represents divine guidance.
Occasions and target groups
For a christening, the angel is a particularly fitting gift – christening officially places the child under the protection of faith, and the angel makes this idea tangible. For godparents, the rattle is a harmonious gift, as godparenthood itself is a promise of accompaniment. The guardian angel also makes a good gift for a birth as a wish cast in silver: May you prosper wherever you go.
Care
Clean the rattle after use with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. For light patina, a silver polishing cloth is sufficient – work carefully into the longitudinal grooves of the stem and the fine contours of the relief. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or abrasive cleaners, not dishwasher safe. The silk ribbon at the transition should not be wet-cleaned – a dry cloth is sufficient if it gets dirty.
