Silver mug 925 silver with engraving panel Doves 280 ml

A silver cup that looks finished at first glance, yet awaits your touch. Two turtledoves in fine niello relief flank an empty, polished oval in the center of the cup — a deliberate blank space, framed by flowers and vines. What you choose to place in this field is up to you: a coat of arms, a monogram, a company emblem, or a date that will last.

Material and craftsmanship

What you see on the body of the cup is neither paint nor print. It is niello — an ancient inlay technique in which a black inlay is melted into fine, engraved recesses, planished, and polished – like ink in silver. The result is durable — no lacquer that peels off, but a fusion that lasts for generations.

The SevChern atelier in Veliky Ustyug, a city in northern Russia that has been known for its niello art since the 17th century, crafts each cup in more than 15 working steps — from the flat silver plate to the finished, polished form. The oval engraving field is not an overlooked empty space, but is part of the design: polished, smooth, ready for whatever you choose to place inside.

Use and occasions

The turtledove is one of the oldest symbols of all — it stands for loyalty, peace, and the new beginning that arrives as surely as spring. For a christening, the dove has always symbolized the Holy Spirit, which is why this cup is considered a classic christening gift. For a wedding, two turtledoves stand for the couple themselves — a symbol that is also reflected in the cup.

For businesses, the cup is a substantial corporate gift: an engraved company emblem in the oval field makes it an honorary gift for a company anniversary or a gift for a long-standing business partner. It also finds its place as a personal gift for a milestone birthday or as a keepsake of a special moment.

Engraving and SilberVerse card

The oval field in the center is intended for engraving — a coat of arms, a monogram, initials, a date, or a short dedication. You add the engraving service fee directly to your cart with the cup; afterwards, you send us a finished template, such as a coat of arms file or handwritten initials. We check with the manufactory what can be implemented, and we will refund the fee if the engraving is not possible. The individual engraving makes each cup unique.

Upon request, we include a personal SilberVerse card in photo format (15 × 10 cm landscape) — individually designed, matching the occasion, and free of charge.

Care

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient for cleaning. You should avoid silver dipping baths, as they can damage the niello inlay. Since the niello is firmly melted into the engraving, the cup remains robust — and over time, the contrasts deepen with polishing instead of fading.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have my company coat of arms or monogram engraved on the cup?

Yes, after review — that is exactly what the oval field is intended for. You add the engraving service fee directly to your cart with the cup and then send us your template; we check the implementation with the manufactory, whether it be a company emblem, family coat of arms, or personal monogram. If the engraving is not possible, we will refund the fee.

Is the cup suitable as a christening gift?

Yes. The dove has always stood for the Holy Spirit and peace, and with the free engraving field, you can have a name or christening date added after review.

How do I properly care for a cup with a niello inlay?

A soft cloth and lukewarm water are sufficient. Avoid aggressive dipping baths — they can damage the niello inlay, while careful care over time can even deepen the contrasts.
