What makes it special

The wall is cylindrical and slightly tapered inwards, with the foot protruding underneath. This step serves a purpose: it catches anything running down the bottle and keeps it away from the table. For a chilled wine that forms condensation, this is its actual benefit.

At approx. 220 g, the piece contains more silver than the open-work versions — a solid wall simply requires more material. You can feel it when you pick it up.

Material

With a mirrored surface, the difference compared to silver-plated goods is most apparent: a plated surface cannot be polished indefinitely because the layer becomes thinner, eventually causing the base metal to shine through. Solid silver can withstand this for generations. The coaster is hallmarked.

To ensure the bottle did not scratch the polished tabletop, it was given a base with a smooth bottom.

The shape has remained, but the purpose has changed: today, the bottle stays put, and the coaster protects against drips and condensation. The wide base ring, which recurs on all versions, still originates from the time when it had to glide across mahogany.
