Bottle coaster 925 silver square — 20 × 20 cm

The edges are not straight, but slightly curved; two opposite corners lift, the other two dip. This transforms a square into a shape with a sense of direction. It is the most modern piece the manufacture produces for bottles — and the only one that manages entirely without a historical model.

At a glance

• Bottle coaster made of 925 sterling silver
• 20 × 20 cm — silver weight approx. 370 g
• Curved square shape with raised corners
• Flat, recessed oval well, mirror-polished, without ornament
• Zaramella Argenti, Padua — manufacture since 1948

Why the corners rise

A flat sheet of thin silver would bend under weight. The curvature prevents this: a curved surface is stiffer than a flat one — the same principle that supports a curved panel in car body construction. What looks like a design decision here is primarily a structural one.

That it results in a silhouette reminiscent of a sail is the added benefit. The piece appears light, even though at 370 grams it is one of the heavier ones.

What the size allows

Twenty by twenty centimeters is more than a bottle needs. That is exactly the point: beside the bottle there is room for two glasses or for corks and a corkscrew. While classified as a coaster, the piece also functions as a small tray.

How to spot the craftsmanship

With a piece without ornamentation, there is only one test: the edge. It runs with consistent thickness along the entire contour, even where the surface rises — and that is precisely the spot where a machine would thin out when shaping a sheet of metal. If you want to know if a smooth piece of silver is well-made, run your finger along the edge.

Material

A curved surface without any ornament forgives nothing. Every irregularity in the silver, every dent in the curvature would be immediately visible in the reflection — and in a curved reflection, even distorted and thus more noticeable than on a flat one. That is why it only works with flawless solid silver; silver plating would also tear at the curve during shaping.

What it is suitable for

For wine, sparkling wine, and water bottles, for carafes, and as a base for a glass with a side dish. It is the only one of our coasters that fits a modern table setting without looking out of place.

Smaller and with a chased edge is the square coaster 14 × 14 cm. Those looking for the classic round shape will find it in the smooth coaster.

As a gift

Silver is considered old-fashioned by many — this piece is the counterargument. It fits into a home where there is otherwise nothing chased, and is therefore often the first silver someone receives.

Engraving is possible after verification on the smooth area next to the well; the reflective surface is particularly well-suited for this. We provide advice in advance. Upon request, we will include a SilberVerse card, 15 × 10 cm, free of charge.

Care

By hand with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly. No dishwasher. With a large reflective surface, wipe in straight lines and do not use a circular motion — on a curved surface, circular marks are even more noticeable than on a flat one. Frequently asked questions

Does the bottle stand securely on the curved surface?

Yes. The well in the center is recessed flat; the curvature only affects the corners.

Can it be used as a tray?

Yes, for short distances. It has no raised edges and no handles — for carrying items across a room, a silver tray is the right choice.

Solid or silver-plated?

Solid 925 sterling silver. We do not carry silver-plated goods.

Is the shape available in a smaller size?

Yes — as a square coaster 14 × 14 cm, though with a chased edge instead of a smooth one.

Is it delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, in high-quality packaging from the manufacture.
